The Social Skills Training Project (3 Part Workshop Series)
Session 2: Managing and Preventing Challenging Behaviors
This course is designed to help parents, caregivers, teachers and therapists an understanding of the following: Identifying common triggers to frustration and anxiety: Internal Triggers, Sensory needs, lack of structure, demands and fears, disappointment/delay gratification, threats to self-esteem and lack of desired attention. Individuals will learn how to create prevention plans for each of the 7 common triggers, and manage anxiety

DOE central and field offices will remain open. Non-school-based staff who are working remotely should continue to do so; those who have been reporting in person should consult with their supervisor as to whether their work can be done remotely tomorrow should conditions prevent safe travel. We urge staff to exercise caution when going outside and to use public transportation whenever possible.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for tomorrow and NYC Emergency Management has also issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory beginning tonight through tomorrow afternoon.
The Overview of the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities workshop for students, parents and staff will take place on Tuesday, January 19that 10:00 a.m. Attendees will learn how MOPD partners with all City offices and agencies to consistently ensure that the rights and concerns of the disability community are included in all City initiatives and that City programs and policies address the needs of people with disabilities.
(This workshop is for high school students, their parents, 2019-20 graduates receiving 21+ consultancy services and staff.)

Learning Bridges and Learning Labs, after-school programs, adult education, and YABC programs are cancelled tomorrow. Food distribution sites are closed as well.
For safety reasons, yellow bus service for charter and non-public school students will not operate tomorrow.

Snow is anticipated to begin tonight and continue until as late as noon tomorrow.
We are working in close communication with DOT and NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) throughout the next 24 hours.

Safety is of the utmost importance. New Yorkers are encouraged to use public transportation during storm conditions and use caution when walking, biking and driving and allow for additional travel time.

During this two-part series, parents and guardians will learn about the IB Awareness Workshop that the Office of Equity and Access is offering to NYC Department of Education staff. Parents and guardians, especially those who are on School Equity Teams, PTA members and CEC members, are encouraged to register, join the community and learn about Implicit Bias, the brain science behind Implicit Bias and how to mitigate the effects of Implicit Bias.
